The Vikings only pre-season fixture saw a late change in opponent, with Aylestone Athletic stepping in to ensure there would be a match day at Platts Lane before the season started.
It proved to be a fairly gentle campaign start, with the Vikings racing into a 19-0 lead with tries from Jon Griffiths, Jack Chantrell & debutant Nathan Thornton. However, the away side showed they weren’t there to make up the numbers; quick thinking at the breakdown allowing them to break and score under the sticks. However, a further try from Scrum Half Josh Freer meant the half time score was 26-7.
Another quick start in the second half saw Griffiths go over in the corner. Not to be left in the cold, other winger Harry Greenbury then dotted down on the opposing wing to take the score to 36-7. However again Aylestone hit back, some poor tackling and defensive alignment allowing the away side over the line. The final saw however would be from the Vikes, Josh Sawbridge with a trademark gallop to end a well spirited pre-season fixture.
