Sileby Town RFC

57 - 7

(HT 0-0)

Stamford College Old Boys RFC

Stamford College Old Boys – ‘SCOB’ – had enjoyed some good months. They had recently moved to their new home, enjoying a great opening day victory against Rugby Welsh. They also pushed Sileby close twice last season. Fortunately for the home side, history didn’t repeat itself.

The Vikings had secured the bonus point before half time. First, sustained pressure forced SCOB back into their own 22. From left to right the ball went, prop Dave Tate offloading to his front row counterpart David Startin to create front foot ball. A phase later Jon Griffiths cut an incisive line to score. Next, the Vikings broke blind from a scrum to set up field position. With the opposition scrambling back the ball went blind again for winger Zak Loveridge to score. The bottom corner, overlooked by the fledgling bonfire, was a poorly destination as winger Alife Holmes was the next to cross the whitewash. Just before half time, Griffiths scored his second. 24-7 at the break (more to follow).

The second half score was 33-0 to the home side. In brief:

- Ross to Loveridge. Loveridge kick collected by winger Dan Collison. Offload to Nathan Thornton. Thornton with the big step. Offload to Loveridge. Try.
- Vikings turn over a scrum on the SCOB 5m line, win the penalty. Tap, prop Steve Weston crashes over.
- Back Row Dave Maguire takes an over thrown line out. Tate carries to 5 metres out. Scrum half Josh Freer feeds second row Aaron Thurlow to score.
- Loveridge collects a kick through and gives to back row come winger Jacob Moore. Moore beats three players, eventually hauled down 5m out but not before he offloads to Griffiths to score in the corner and complete his hat trick.
- Loveridge collects another kick. Breaks and finds Griffiths. Griffiths selflessly puts Collison in for the score.

Full time, Sileby 57-7. The SOCB try? Find that out for yourself.

Next in the league – Market Harborough away.
